Protective Masks to Protect Democracy
It goes without saying that the US government is a complete clusterf#*k right now. From a global pandemic and our country’s reckoning with centuries of racism, to your standard run-of-the-mill voter suppression, to newer and particularly alarming forms of voter suppression such as the intentional sabotaging of the Postal Service when we need it most (phew!), we have a few issues on our hands. There’s also the blatant misogyny of this administration and the fact that all of these issues intersect with race in that by and large they disproportionately affect communities of color.
The persistent threats to our democracy and federal leadership that most resembles a crew of Disney villains hell bent on thwarting any efforts toward equality can get a bit overwhelming to say the least
But at Meg, we're not ones to sit on the sidelines
Given that we are a fashion brand founded on the principles of helping and empowering womxn, you may recall some of our Feminist merch of yore. Today those principles endure, but with an emphasis on intersectionality as well as the extremely pressing aforementioned issues that converge to upend our upcoming election and suppress crucial votes.
Our new Feminist Mask
Enter, the Feminist mask. This baby helps us and our customers address today’s most pressing issues by:
- Donating $1 of each sale to Fair Fight, a non-profit founded by Stacy Abrams to promote fair elections, encourage voter participation, and educate voters about elections and their voting rights. In 2018 Abrams was the first Black woman to become the gubernatorial nominee for a major party in the United States, and the first black woman to deliver a Response to the State of the Union.
- Supporting the United States Postal Service. The USPS is currently under attack by the current administration in an effort to suppress votes and delegitimize mail-in voting when we need it most: during a global pandemic that disproportionately affects people of color. Denying USPS crucial government funding will not only hurt our democracy and encourage voters to risk their lives in order to even participate, but will also hurt small businesses, elderly folks who rely on prescription delivery, and rural communities. As a small business, we rely on USPS for the majority of our orders, and one of the best ways to support them now is to simply use them, or buy stamps. We will deliver the majority of orders via USPS.
- Keeping you and others safe by covering your nose and mouth, effectively slowing the spread of Covid-19.
